Hasler Company

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines have formed a Royal Marine Unit called Hasler Company specifically to help aid the recovery, rehabilitation and re-integration of injured service personnel from all three services needing focused and individual attention.

Hasler Company is the first of its kind - a unit dedicated to the specific and complex needs of seriously injured and ill service personnel who require specially tailored programmes in order to provide additional bespoke support. It is based in HMS Drake, HM Naval Base Devonport, Plymouth.

The guys from Hasler Company were given a demonstrations, a slide show and talk about remedial farriery and a full tour of all the facilities at Western Counties Veterinary Hospital. The whole day was very well received, and some of our visitors were surprised at the involvement that farriers have in a horses rehabilitation and how close farriers work with vets to get equines back, quite literally, on their feet.

It was a very rewarding day, several of the members of Hasler Company commented that they were fascinated with how farriery worked and had found it extrememly interesting.

To finish the day, Simon presented the Company with a plaque illustrating a shoe made in the forge, to commemorate their visit which was very gladly received, and I now believe, is living in their mess!
